Autism Light #211 is IdahoAutism.com.

IdahoAutism.com is a content rich website resource created to help the autism community in Idaho, though some of the news and practical information can relate also to those outside Idaho. IdahoAutism.com is an Autism Light because of how their resources are helping change lives of those with autism in Idaho as loved ones discover local resources available to help them.

The IdahoAutism.com website was created and maintained by an unidentified family in Treasure Valley, Idaho who have a 9 year old son with Autism. The creators of the website say this about their passion for developing this autism resource:

We feel very grateful for how much progress our son has made and we wanted to do something to give back to the Autism community. It is possible with the right intervention and with well trained and professional therapist working with your child that you can improve a child’s prognosis enormously. We hope that by creating this web site that it helps those families trying to find the right services and therapist for their loved one (Source).

Mission: In addition, IdahoAutism.com lists this as their mission:

Our hope in creating this website is to help families find the resources they need to help their loved ones suffering with autism. Everyone deserves the opportunity to know about the latest, best treatment and services that are available to them.

According to their website, "Special Needs Training provides professionally accredited online educational program. This web-based program is specifically designed for professionals, direct service providers, teachers, and families."

Special Learning

Autism Light #123 is Special Learning.

Special Learning, Inc. is a company offering ABA resources and other support for parents, providers, and educators of children with autism. Special Learning was founded in 2010 by Karen Chung and Michelle LaMarche. They are based in Chicago, Illinois, but their services are primarily through online resources. Special Learning is an Autism Light because they are helping to improve the life and learning of children with autism.

The Special Learning website can be found at www.special-learning.com.  Their website summarizes their work as being "The comprehensive autism solutions company."  The Special Learning Twitter page says they are "a resource portal and web-based solutions provider for parents with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder."

The following is an App that Special Learning created to serve as a Augmentative and Alternative Communicative Device for the iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch. It's called Communicating Basic Needs. There is a Lite Version of the App that is Free and the "Full" version costs less than $40.00. It may be purchased from iTunes.

The mission of Special Learning and their website portal is to "offer every parent of a child with Autism a genuine chance to help their son or daughter to attain a fulfilling life using Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy. This site provides extensive information, resources and tools for anyone who works with or whose life is touched by a child with ASD (Source)."

Special Learning states that they, "have the most expansive and user friendly library of autism, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy and education information available online." The Special Learning website includes resources that are sorted by three main target audiences--parents, providers, and educators of children with autism.

Special Learning has a goal to make their resources accessible to the autism community. Some potentially helpful resources (especially related to ABA) are for sale in their Store, and other general resources and videos on their web portal are in a Resource Center that one can appreciate for free.

Autism Light #16 is AutismInBlack.com.

AutismInBlack.com is a website that focuses on the impact of autism on African Americans.  The website explains its passion by saying, "Raising a child with Autism can be difficult for anyone, however in the Black community there are additional challenges that may affect us."

It organizes information into three categories:  medical, educational, cultural. The website has a deep level of commitment and they are providing a spotlight on the issue of autism in the minority community of African Americans. Google recognizes this commitment because when you Google "Autism Black" this website comes up at the top of the search.

AutismInBlack.com is an Autism Light because they are providing information that is necessary as the world needs to be better equipped to help individuals with autism of all races.  This site is specifically of value to any African American family with a child with autism, but it is also has relevance to anyone who desires to understand more about autism and it's impact on African Americans.

Parent Dish

Autism Light #7 is Parent Dish.

Parent Dish was a website resource for well, you guessed it, parents.  They were Autism Light#7 because of an article they featured on April 23, 2010 called Celebrities and Other Famous Folks with Autism.  The article listed 58 profiles of famous people that you may or may not know have been associated with autism.  It is a very interesting read for those interested in autism awareness.
