Dr. David Amaral is a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California Davis. His full biography is available at the UC Davis website. He is also the Director of Research at the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute. Dr. Amaral provides a welcome to the work of the M.I.N.D. Institute at this link.
Below is a presentation of Dr. David Amaral discussing the M.I.N.D. Institute and the evolution of autism research.
One of Dr. David Amaral's research projects is called the Autism Phenome Project. Dr. Amaral says, "The goal of this project is to identify subtypes of autism. Once we identify those, we believe that we can go after the cause for each one in a more productive fashion (Source)."
Dr. David Amaral is also the editor (along with David Geschwind and Geraldine Dawson) of the book, Autism Spectrum Disorders, that was published in June, 2011. Because 80 researchers are covered in the book, Amazon calls this book, "a virtual 'who's who' of autism research." The following are some links on the Internet about his recent research work related to autism that has received the attention of the news media.
I work in the Amaral lab. Thank you for raising awareness and highlighting the lab's efforts.
